What is Mental Health?

Mental health is like the software that runs our minds. It’s about how we think, feel, and act in response to life’s ups and downs. Just like physical health, it’s crucial for our overall wellbeing. It’s not just about being happy all the time; it’s about finding balance, coping with stress, and bouncing back from challenges.

Just as we care for our physical health by eating well, exercising, and getting enough sleep, we also need to take care of our mental health. This might involve practices like mindfulness, relaxation techniques, or seeking therapy or counselling when we’re struggling. It’s about recognising when we need support and reaching out for help, whether from friends, family, staff or mental health professionals.

Mental health isn’t something that’s static or fixed; it’s dynamic and can change over time. It’s influenced by a variety of factors, including our life experiences, and the environments we live in. Taking care of our mental health involves recognising when we’re feeling overwhelmed, stressed, or anxious, and taking steps to address those feelings in healthy ways.
